Auckland Huskies visit Stanley Bay

Ollie B and Sam D —

Last week on Friday three players from the Auckland Huskies basketball team came to our school. The players who visited were the Tall Black Tohi Smith-Milner, Reuben Fitselgard and Nate Wilson.

We did some dribbling skills to warm up and then played a game called make or miss where we decide whether we think the Huskies player will score a three-point shot or not until there is one winner. After this we played multi-sport; Nate was on one team and Tohi was on the other. Nate did some ‘fat’ as blocks and alley-oop dunks. After this the Huskies wanted to play 1 on 1’s against us, so Mr R chose people at random to 1v1 them. Mr R was first - he got blocked so badly but not as badly as the kids. Dorothea W was the first and only one to score against Nate. After this, they did some spot prizes, giving away Huskies tee-shirts to those who put in 100% effort. The prize winners were Aggie G (yr 6), George C (yr 5), and Ollie B (yr 6).

All of us had a great time and we are very grateful that Mr R got them to come in. Some of us went to the basketball game the day after on Saturday and saw the Huskies win 93-82, with Tohi scoring 19 points with 10 rebounds and Nate shooting 3 from 3 three-pointers to seal the game.
