You Can Do It!

Lucy Naylor —

At Stanley Bay we encourage a 'can do' attitude, sometimes where our routines are out of kilter we can lose the drive to give it a go. As part of our focus on student wellbeing, we are aiming to provide an environment where students once again feel comfortable to take learning risks.

In the past two weeks, we have noticed energy levels have dropped and many students are tired; change can be exhausting. We are reminding students that change is part of life, and it needs us to be strong and brave especially when fatigue sets in. It is time to dig deep.

As we approach the last two weeks of a very long term, it is the teachers’ job to keep students working to reach their goals. They will challenge and test children, as they should, but do so in a way that is supportive.

We are encouraging students to:

  • Limit distractions - decide what they need to focus on and make sure that’s where they put their time and energy.
  • Keep a routine - psychologists believe that having a daily routine is key to maintaining your mental health. At school, the daily routine is a priority in helping students feel comfortable and secure.
  • Fill knowledge gaps - some students may feel like they only have a partial understanding of aspects of learning that was completed at home. Teachers are working with students to find and fill those gaps, this is what teachers do on a daily basis.
  • Be patient - staying positive (despite being tired) and focused on school work will keep young minds healthy and ready to learn.

We are promoting a 'you can do it' attitude and letting students know that the teachers are here to help and support. Above all that we are proud of what we have achieved together over the past couple of months.

New Learning Spaces

Last week Room 7 moved back into their amazing newly refurbished space. Not only does it look fresh, light, and bright, but it has also created so much more space!

Dorothea and Georgie have made a short video tour to show you around -

Coming Soon.....FOSB Knowledge-athon!

Our fundraising plans have had to change dramatically this year and to replace the Stanley Bay Stampede we are launching a Knowledge-athon.

Students will have the opportunity to learn the answers to a fun, mind-fizzing quiz which includes questions about Aotearoa and our very own school. This is a great opportunity for your whole family to test their general knowledge whilst raising valuable funds for the school.

Watch out for more information coming to your inbox shortly!

Kapa Haka Tutor

We are desperately seeking a Kapa Haka tutor to motivate and inspire our tamariki. This is a paid position and would start in term 3. Please contact principal@stanleybay.school.nz if you would like more information.
