THE CHOIR- Henry N (Rm7)

“ Wow”, I said with amazement.” This place is massive”. All my friends were with me ready to sing for lots of people. My friend said, "It's a goat”. We all went over to the goat we patted over and over. We all went to the playground where we had to meet everyone who was playing on it.” Ok everyone ”, said Mr O. “Time to line up to go in”. “ Line one”, “ Line two “ , “ Line three”, and on it went. “Time to walk in", I said. The two people asked for the schools to come up. The first thing we did was all sing a song called Blossom Out. Then it was Takapuna grammar first up. Then we were next after Takapuna Grammar. Takapuna was great at singing. We were up now, we sang ‘Te Iwi E’ first which we had to restart which was embarrassing. Then we sang “Hallelujah”, and after that we sang “Sweet Caroline” which everyone loved. Then we listened to the other schools. After that we went back to school. I thought we did really good.

SINGING IN THE CHOIR!🎺 Livvie K (Rm 7)

On Thursday last week rooms 7 and 8 went to the choir concert!!!

It was so fun. The first school was Takapuna Grammar and they sang lots of funny high pitched songs. Next was us, I was so nervous, then my school stood up and walked onto the stage, I was in the third row. The first song we sang was called “Te Iwi E” it was a Maori song. After about 4 lines of the song Mr Offner stopped us. He is my teacher and he played the guitar. He said “oh sorry you were all a bit out of tune” so we had to start again! But we did finally got it, then we sang Hallelujah then the favourite was the last song which was Sweet Caroline. Everyone loved it and joined in. After that we took a bow and walked off stage. We watched a few more songs and then it was time to go back to school. When we drove back to school, we played a game then it was lunch, and all of us thought that choir was more fun than we thought it would be.

When school started we were on the top court. After the teachers gave the parents some instructions we were assigned parents to go to Belmont Primary School. It felt like aaaaaages until we got there, and when we got there the teachers put us in our lines and we walked into the hall. It was soooooo big and it was quite loud too. Then everything went quiet and their principal made a speech. After that the first Takapuna Grammar choir got up onto the stage and sang two French songs. After that it was our turn to sing. First we sang Te-Iwi-E, then we sang Hallelujah and lastly we sang Sweet Caroline. After that I felt good that it was all done. For a while we watched the other schools do their songs. When half of the schools were done we had a break, we played tag with some of the Takapuna Grammar students, it was really fun! After the break was done we all walked back into the hall to listen to the remaining schools songs. When the second Takapuna Grammar choir sang a Malaysian folk song that was definitely my favourite song. When everything was done we got back into our cars and went back to school.

On Thursday we were in the classroom when someone shouted out, “Aren't you nervous, its choir today!” and then everybody starts freaking out about what car they are in and where they are standing. All of a sudden Mr Offner burst in and starts tuning his guitar and shouting at everybody to meet on the top court at the exact same time! Everybody runs out the door as if the last piece of chocolate is out there. Finally we get to the top court and get into our cars. I got into the one I wanted! When we got there Takapuna grammar School performed. They were amazing. All of a sudden the people at the front of the stage shout,” STANLEY BAY SCHOOL!” Everybody stood up and half ran and half walked on stage. But in the middle of ‘Te iwi e’, Mr Offner stopped us and said that we where out of tune. We sang three songs:’ Te Iwi E’, ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Sweet Caroline!’ It was nerve racking, but amazing. My knees were shaking but my head was tall, and my heart was warmed by the music. At the same time it seemed such a short time. But all too soon it was over. After we had morning tea, about ten other schools went and then Takupuna Grammar went again! My jaw dropped. It was amazing. The actions must have taken ages to learn! All too quickly it was over.

Last Thursday room 7, room 8 and the rest of the school that wanted to do the choir headed to Belmont Primary. While carpooling with Harvey’s mum we were listening to amazing songs!

When we walked into our spot in the hall we were in our lines. I was in the front row. We were the second school behind Takapuna Grammar school.

It was super scary for me because I was the first person to walk up both times!!!

We sang Sweet Caroline, Hallelujah and Te Iwi ē. When we were done singing we were super relieved. Miss Moynagh and Mr Offner said we were amazing.

After the next group we had morning tea. There was a tower on the playground that me and my friends were defending because it was the best place to eat.

After morning tea we watched more schools. My favourite school to watch was Takapuna grammar because they had practised and performed songs from other countries. It was amazing.

On Thursday last week, Room 7, Room 8 and a few other kids from around the school went to Belmot primary for the choir concert. When we got to school we did the roll and then we went up to the top court. After we made sure that we had everyone we got into the parents cars and that when everyone starts to get really nervous. Mr Offner shouts “That’s not where you're supposed to be!” when we arrive at Belmont. Then there was a bit of chaos but we got into the hall safe and sound. First up there was Takapuna Grammar school and when they started singing, I was shocked they were so good. Then they called out “Stanley Bay school will be going next! We stood up and ran/walked on to the stage and got ready to sing. First we sang Te Iwi E and Mr Offner made us stop in the middle of it to restart because we were out of tune. Then we sang Hallelujah and Sweet Caroline. A few more schools went and then we had morning tea and then the other schools went. When all the schools had finished all the choirs sang Sweet Caroline. We went out of the hall and got back into the cars. It was so much fun!!
