Huge SHOUT OUT!!

Lucy Naylor —

One of the many, many fabulous things about Stanley Bay is the support we receive from the community. One of the many 2019 highlights has been the wealth of helpers who have given up their time to support our children.

Help comes in many guises and we are so fortunate to have a parents who willingly and tirelessly give their time to support the school in many ways: Waterwise volunteers, spelling and reading helpers, Board members,  FOSB Team, sports managers, coaches, chess co-ordinators, green team helpers, builders, bakers, disco co-ordinators, sausage sizzlers, mud pit diggers to name but few!

We have a reputation for being a strong community, and this year has been no exception. Raising children is a team sport and to see the community and school work together to improve the outcomes for all our children is inspiring. You have proved that volunteers do not want to be praised for helping, rather you are the people who thank others for giving them the opportunity to help.

I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks and a massive shout out to everyone who has given their time, energy and enthusiasm to our school. You may not realise it but you are the real superheroes in the lives of the children!

Staffing News

Congratulations to Bianca Odendaal (Room 6 Teacher) who has won a position at Murrays Bay Intermediate. Bianca has decided to make the move to be closer to home and her young family.

As previously communicated, this term, we will also be farewelling  Nichola Flaherty, Maria Adam, and Karyn Barnes-Pownall. Please come along to the Christmas Assembly to join us in saying goodbye.

On a happy note, we are very excited to inform you that Rachael Hamilton has been appointed to the role of Enrolment and Administration Officer. We are very much looking forward to welcoming her to the team!

Sun Smart

With the warmer weather, it is a timely reminder for us to get sun smart. This term children are required to wear their Stanley Bay SunSmart hats whenever they are outside. Students without a hat must remain in the allocated shaded area at break times. Please remind your child to bring their hat to school every day.

During term 4 we also encourage students to protect themselves with broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least SPF30, and by sitting/playing in the shade where possible. It is advisable to sunblock your child before school and provide them with sunblock to keep in their bag so it can be topped up during the day. Teachers will be reminding children to reapply at regular intervals.

Waterwise

For those new to Stanley Bay, Waterwise is a fun activity that aims to encourage and develop children's water safety and awareness.

There are many parent roles within Waterwise and right now we have an opportunity for a parent to join the Waterwise Committee, this could be an instructor/helper or someone completely new to Waterwise. No experience required!

The commitment is one meeting per month and no other obligations other than ensuring that someone is on top of the Stanley Bay maintenance and fuel duties.

A huge thank you to Narly Kalupahana who has been our representative on the committee for the past year and has done a great job of keeping us all afloat and up to speed.

End of Year Events

With the end of term fast approaching, there are a few dates to note in your diary;

Devonport Santa Parade - Sunday 1 December
Once again we will be taking part in the Devonport Christmas Parade.  Last year we really made an impact and this year it will be spectacular! The children have been practicing their moves and if you fancy getting into the spirit ....you too can learn the moves.

To keep it simple we will be asking the children to wear red, white and green, Santa hats and tinsel would be a great addition too.

We hope to see as many Stanley Bay families as possible joining in. If you are coming along, we will be meeting outside The Depot Art Space at 10.30am (same as last year)

We look forward to seeing you all there with your Christmas bells on!
