Garden to Table

Room 8 had a great Garden to Table session on Friday.

Our winter garden produced key ingredients for our soup and herbs for our scones. 

In the garden, children have been planting seedlings, weeding, adding compost, and protecting the plants we already have. 

Our Kaitiakitanga group looked at the composition of the soil. We discussed the difference between soil and dirt and got our hands dirty when we tested three different soil samples for their sand and clay content. 

In the kitchen, with help from Vettinia, the children practiced their cutting and knife skills and made a delicious soup and some herbed scones. 

It is always lovely to finish off our session by coming together to share the meal we have produced.
