Thank you to everyone who helped with our Garden Bee!

Rachael Hamilton —

A huge thank you to all the families who gave up their ANZAC afternoon to help build planter boxes, organise the compost, sort out kitchen equipment, move large rocks, and shovel a lot of dirt! I couldn’t have done it without you all!

Garden to Table is a charitable trust that supports primary and intermediate schools and kura to take learning out of the classroom and into the garden and the kitchen. The programme teaches thousands of kiwi kids knowledge and skills that have a transformative and lifelong impact on their hauora — wellbeing — and on the world around them.

After a lot of planning, preparation and a hugely successful working bee on ANZAC day, we are ready to get started on our Garden to Table programme. The children participating in the programme at our school will be our Year 4s and their classes. This year, that includes Rooms 6, 7, and 8.

Each class will participate in the programme three times a term. The classes will be split into small groups and over a term, they will rotate through three activities.

  • Gardening to produce food for our meals;

  • Working in the kitchen to prepare healthy meals.

  • Food preparation/ composting/ garden science.

Our programme will start on Friday 12th May. Keep an eye out for more details as our programme progresses.

We are still in need of a few bits and pieces. Please send these in if you have an excess in your kitchen!
