What's happening in our classes this term?

Scott Boniface —

This term our learning focusses on culture, from what it means to be a kiwi, through to our unique multicultural society we live in today.

The junior school will look at how the roles of the past are reflected in how we live today, and inquire into their own personal histories. In numeracy, students will focus on number and end the term by looking at fractions and measurement. The literacy theme during this term is on creating lists and learning how to write a recount of an event. All classes will be using our fabulous school pool and continue to develop water confidence and swimming ability.

The middle school inquiry focusses on traditions, values and the impact significant New Zealanders have made to our country, both past and present. For mathematics, students will continue to consolidate their knowledge of the four operations (multiplication, division, addition and subtraction), along with a focus on fractions. In literacy, students will develop their ability to write in the first person and from the viewpoints of others. For physical education there is a focus on athletics and all students will be swimming in our pool.

The senior school will look into how cultural diversity, differing perspectives and migration have all contributed to the multicultural nature of Aotearoa. For literacy, the main focus will be on writing procedural and persuasive texts types. In numeracy, students will continue learning algebra and end the term consolidating number skills. During physical education, students will develop skills associated with athletics and complete their Waterwise programme that was interrupted during Covid.

We have a book fair happening in week 4, 2-6 November that culminates in a book parade during a special assembly on Friday morning.
