Walk Through the Dark
Takapuna Grammar School is hosting a 24 Hour “Walk Through the Dark” which will be held on Friday 22 September 2.00pm - Saturday 23 September 2.00pm, our last day of term.
The key objective of the ‘Walk Through the Dark’ is to raise awareness around the mental health of our youth and the importance of being physically active to support a balanced wellbeing.
In 2021/22, nearly one in four (23.6%) young people aged 15–24 years experienced high or very high levels of psychological distress. As a school of students in this age group it is a relatable and incredibly purposeful event. At school, the five ways to wellbeing are engraved into our learning, physical activity being a fundamental part of this. Therefore we are using the act of walking to promote the importance of physical activity to support a balanced wellbeing and stand up for those with mental health struggles.
We would love to give your school the opportunity to become involved in this event as you are a valuable part of our community. Any family members as well as school students are highly encouraged to all come along and walk for however long they desire. In addition, we have the intention of providing entertainment for people who may not be able to walk, this is hopefully going to include things like a bouncy castle.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could help us to advertise our event for the community. If there is any way that you could please post our attached poster on the newsletter to go out to parents or on any other form of advertisement that would be very helpful.
The money that we fundraise from this event is going to the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation. If you would be able to give the parents/caregivers the option to donate that would be amazing. We have been organising this event for the past few months and will not be able to meet our goals without the help of the community.
We currently have a monetary donation goal of $5000 of which they can make a donation through this link TGS "Walk through the Dark" donation or for more information get in contact with Jason Ross on j.ross@tgs.school.nz.
If you can not support us in this way we would be incredibly appreciative of any form of donation whether that be through goods or services from our community.
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
