School Updates

Stanley Bay School —

12 October 2021

Stanley Bay at Alert Level 3

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement yesterday, schools in Auckland will not reopen on the first day of Term 4, which means that children will continue home learning until further notice.

Teacher Only Day - Monday 18 October
As previously advised in my update on 1 October, a Teacher Only Day will be held on the first day of Term 4, Monday 18 October, and there will be no teacher only day on 19 November.

First Day of Home Learning - Tuesday 19 October
The first day of Home Learning will be Tuesday 19 October. Your child’s class teacher will be in touch with the class timetable and links.

Level 3 Attendance - As was previously the case at the end of Term 3, only children of essential workers can attend school until further notice. The alert level settings will be reviewed again by the government on Monday, 18 October. If your child must attend school, you are required to complete the form to register their attendance by 5 pm on Thursday, 14 October.

Vaccinations
As you will be aware, vaccinations for all school staff is becoming mandatory. I know that there will be potential anxiety amongst the community about staff vaccinations and possible reopening. Therefore, I want to reassure the community at this early stage by confirming that all permanent and part-time staff have received one vaccination, 80% are fully vaccinated, and those who are not have scheduled to have the second vaccination shortly. More details around the vaccination of school staff and contractors will be provided once we receive Ministry guidance on reopening.

20 September 2021

Following the Prime Ministers announcement today, Auckland will move to Alert Level 3 at 11.59 on 22 September.

At Alert Level 3, the key message from the Government is that “broadly speaking schools remain closed”, if you can, you should keep your child at home. You should only physically send your child to school if you cannot provide care or work in essential services. If your child has a health condition, they are at a greater risk of a severe illness, or if they are sick, you must keep them at home.

At Level 3, the school will continue to deliver online learning for all students. Students who have to return to school will be taking part in the same Home Learning that is currently being delivered online.

As requested in the email dated 14 September, if you need your child to attend school at Level 3, you must register their attendance. If your circumstances have changed and you need to register your child to attend school at Level 3 please contact me (principal@stanleybay.school.nz) as soon as possible.

From all the staff at SBS, thank you for your continued support.

18 August 2021

Following the Prime Ministers announcement, we are at Alert Level 4, and all educational institutions are closed. Therefore, all students must be kept at home.

Home Learning

For the duration of Level 4, we will be delivering home learning.

Thursday 19 August - Introduction to Home Learning

Teachers will be sharing:

● Logins and passwords for online learning

● Online Safety Rules

● Year 0/2 - Independent Task Board

● Year 3/6 - Independent Task Board on SeeSaw

Home learning will commence on Friday, 20 August.

How to Access home Learning

Each teaching team has a 'page' - a one-stop-shop where you can access all the information you need to support your child's learning. Here are the links to the learning pages:

Year 0/2 Home Learning

Year 3/6 Home Learning

Every week, class teachers will share a new timetable that will include all the links for online meetings and lessons. You can find the weekly timetable by clicking on the links below

Year 0/2 Timetables

Year 3/6 Timetables

Please note that teachers are working on the Home Learning page and timetables today, so some pages may not be populated yet.

Children's Workbooks and Loan of Devices

At level 4, the school site is closed, and we are not permitted to access the site. Therefore, we will not be able to loan devices or send children's workbooks home.

In addition, teachers have not been able to access the school site to gather resources. This means that they will have limited access to teachers’ resources to support their online teaching.

Health and Safety - Online Safety and Etiquette

With Home Learning comes challenges of increased time on devices. Your child's safety online is of paramount importance. Therefore, teachers will be working with students to ensure that they are aware of online safety rules when participating in class lessons.

Teachers will be sharing Zoom Rules with all students and will be using these as 'class rules'. If students do not follow our online behaviour expectations, they may be asked to leave the meeting. We appreciate your support with this.

I encourage you to read the article - Protecting Our Children Online - which provides essential information to help keep your child safe.

We want to reassure you that we are well placed and fully prepared to move our learning programs online and continue to offer high quality learning. As Aucklanders, we have been here before and are optimistic that once again, our students will impress us with their flexibility and engagement when learning remotely. We also know that our students are agile and able to shift to online learning with ease.

This time the community case is very close to home, and this may make us feel uncertain, but it is a situation our school is prepared for. We understand that each family will experience lockdown differently, and therefore home learning will vary, which is ok. Please be assured that we are here to support you and your family at this time.

Thank you again for your support.

Yours sincerely

Lucy Naylor
