Kia ora e te whānau,

Mrs Tolmie —

We were delighted to see the strong turnout for the teacher-parent conferences in the final week of Term 2. Based on your feedback about school reports, we will conduct a comprehensive review in 2024 to improve communication regarding your child's progress throughout the year.

Presently, some progression levels are missing from the reports, creating an impression of stalled progress in some cases. This upcoming review will address this and accommodate curriculum updates. We value your input and will seek more before finalising any changes.

Friday Assemblies

We're adjusting assembly times and frequency this Term to better use our Fridays for teaching key subjects like reading, writing, and maths. Assemblies, previously scheduled first thing in the morning, often set the tone for Friday's teaching day. In the future, assemblies will occur at 11:30 am, after morning tea, allowing us to continue our morning reading and writing programs. We will have five assemblies this Term, including one whakatau and a book character parade, to which all parents are invited. Two classes will share their learning at each assembly.

Here's the Term 3 schedule for School Hall assemblies:

  • 28 July, 9.15 am: Book Week character parade. All parents welcome

  • 4 August, 11.30 am: Rooms 9 and 10 sharing

  • 11 August, 11.30 am: Rooms 6 and 12 sharing

  • 18 August, No assembly: School-wide singing practice to focus on the national anthem in sign language

  • 25 August, 11.30 am: Rooms 7 and 8 sharing

  • 1 September, No assembly

  • 8 September, 11.30 am: Rooms 11 and 4 sharing

  • 15 September, No assembly: Whakatau practice

  • 22 September, 11.30 am: Rooms 1, 2, and 3 sharing

This streamlined assembly schedule frees more time for focused teaching and learning while maintaining our community-building gatherings on Fridays.

Junior Classes Update

Starting this Term, children in the Junior classes (Years 0-3) can look forward to receiving learning materials in their book bags every night. Junior parents will receive more information from teachers about best supporting their child's learning with these home materials.

Term Focus and Overview

This Term, our focus is on Tūrangiwaiwai - exploring where we stand. The next newsletter will provide more details, highlighting interschool events across peninsula schools supporting this learning initiative during Term 3. Keep an eye out for exciting events during Matariki Week (Week 1), Book Week (Week 2), and Maths Week (Week 4) and join us for these special occasions.

Online Safety

An information session for Years 5 and 6 Families is happening on Tuesday, 25 July, between 7.30 pm and 8.30 pm. This will provide an opportunity to discuss school internet safety measures now that Years 5 and 6 students are starting to bring their own devices from home this Term. We look forward to engaging with parents and providing the necessary information. A similar session will be scheduled later in the Term for other parents.
