Peninsula Dance Festival

Karyn Barnes-Pownall —

On Friday 16 August three dance crew's from Stanley Bay School took part in the Annual Peninsula Dance festival at Belmont Intermediate School. The junior crew performed a pirate ribbon dance and both the Y3 and 4 group and the Y5 and 6 group performed contemporary dances.

Holly S (Y6) describes the experience below:

Year 5 & 6

Emotions were frantic throughout the hall. As we stepped onto the stage a wave of silence collapsed over the crowd. I could tell that everyone was feeling overwhelmed at that point.  The silence was broken by the start of the music, and that was our cue to begin. We danced with expression, energy spreading from head to toe. Thundering cheers erupted throughout the hall.  As the music died down and the cheers became a whisper, we dashed off the stage and collapsed in a pile of relief.

Year 3 & 4

As the lighting flickered on, the performers strode onto the stage swaying their skirts behind them so that they would plummet towards their knees. The music began and the girls stole the spotlight. Smiles of enthusiasm beamed across their faces.  They frolicked across the room pirouetting and prancing as if they were on X-factor.   As the song’s last second was played, the girls exited off the stage in a graceful skip and sighed a great sigh of relief.
