Maths in Room 6

Room 6 —

We are learning about measuring length in metres and centimetres. We had to cut streamers into lengths of one metre, 50 centimetres, 20 centimetres and 10 centimetres.

We compared them and figured out lots of maths, like:

  • 50 centimetres fits into one metre twice

  • there are 10 groups of 10 centimetres in one metre, because one metre is 100 centimetres

  • there are 5 groups of 20 centimetres in a metre. We know that 5+5=10, that 5x2=10. We can use place value to say that 5x20=100. We can also skip count in 5’s - if we do it 20 times we get to 100

We used addition, skip counting, multiplication and measuring and cutting skills, as well as team work! It was fun!
