Last week Room 9 and 10 created poems based on James K Baxter's Memoir Poem

Rm 9 & 10 —

This is Jame's model we looked at: The town was usual enough: It had a creek, a bridge, a beach, a sky over it, and even a small tin church I never went to. My brother, my cousins and I did what boys do: Dozed in the hot schoolroom, made bows and arrows, dodged the mad Boatbuilder, crept like rabbits through the black under-runners with a weak torch, burnt dry rushes, wrestled or swam - Doing nothing important.

The Town

The town was usual enough; it had

A dairy, a wharf, a library, a park

It even had an old art gallery

That I never went to. My friends and I

did what boys do-wharf jumping,

playing tag, and hide and seek in shops,

getting kicked out of places and getting told off

Doing nothing important.

The Town

The town was usual enough; it had

A dairy, a park, a library, a beach a sun

Above it, and even a wharf.

My friends and I did what girls do- sun bathe on

The hot sand, eat ice-cream, gossiping, swimming or even wharf jumping

Doing nothing important.

The Village

The village was normal enough; It had

A supermarket, a theatre, a dairy and a few clouds

Over it, and a large spruce library

I rarely go to. My best friend and I

Did what best friends do - Attack eachother,

Tell eachother secrets, Walked around the

School grounds hand in hand, Go shopping, Talked or screamed

Doing nothing important.
