Stanley Bay hosts Inter Schools Chess Tournament

Lucy Naylor —

On 21 May we hosted a chess tournament for peninsula schools.

Luckily we have been practicing at Chess Club every Friday!

Every student from Stanley bay, Devonport and Hauraki school had seven games each and there were five different teams; Stanley Bay A,B & C, Devonport A, Hauraki A

Over all the one person who won seven out of seven of his games was Max Garland. He also won an invitation to go to Christchurch for the NZ regional finals against the best of the best in New Zealand. Good luck to Max!!  By Marley & Max , Room 10

The chess tournament was really good fun. We got to play against 7 other people but we didn't know who we were playing against. It was really exciting to meet people from other schools and see how good they were at chess. I beat 4 other players and I lost 3 games. I was impressed with myself because I played against year 6s.  Aria, Room 7

At the Chess Tournament, two other schools came to compete against us. We all played seven games. Devonport came first, Stanley Bay came second and Hauraki came third it was really fun.  Josh & Raff, Room 7

“I came 16th out of nearly 60 others. I felt I did better than I thought I would” Josh

“ I thought I did well because I only learned to play chess a few weeks ago. I came 12th overall.” Raff
