Welcome to Term 2!

Lucy Naylor —

A warm welcome back to all our SBS families, I trust you have thoroughly enjoyed the break and made the most of some quality time with your children.

As always we are hitting the ground running, teachers have been busy preparing some exciting learning experiences and events to drive curiosity, motivate and engage learners.

This term the whole school will have a science focus and students will be exploring various aspects of the physical, material and living world. Using an inquiry approach students  will have the opportunity to develop their scientific knowledge and apply their new learning in contexts that are relevant and connected to our local area.

To  create some 'wonder' on Thursday 9 May (9.15) we will have a very special visit from Nano Girl.  The show is world renown for its inspiring approach to educate and empower young people through science, technology and engineering in a way that will have a lasting impact. What an explosive way to start our inquiries!

Please feel free to join us for a morning of science exploration and adventure. To find out more about Nano Girl you can go to:

If you have expertise in science or engineering we would love to hear from you and talk about how you can support our learning this term.

Paid Union Meetings

As you will be aware from previous newsletters the NZEI (Teachers union) were planning a series of paid union meetings to enter a third round of negotiations with the Government. The paid union meetings will take place between 6 to 10 May. The school will remain open, however to allow teachers to attend meetings classes will be split.

Teacher Only Day

On 31 May the school will be closed to enable teachers to attend the Kahui Ako Conference. The conference is held at Takapuna Grammar and attended by all teachers on the peninsula. It will be a fantastic day of learning and sharing of best practice amongst local schools.

Kelly Club will be operating, please Click here if you wish to make a booking.

Farewell
Liz Sample, our wonderful Finance Officer, will be leaving us in Term 3. Having spent the past 8 years at Stanley Bay, Liz is off to travel the world and enjoy a well deserved break.

The position is currently advertised in the Rangitoto Observer and North Shore Times.

Finally, don't forget to join us for assembly on Friday, 2.15, where we will be having a mihi whakatau to welcome all the new students to our school!

Nga mihi
