Rippa Rugby Tournament

Rachael Hamilton —

Last week some of our students attended a peninsula Rippa Tournament

Rippa by Sophia Ron Rm 8

First we arrived bright and early for the exciting day ahead. We got on a double-decker bus and headed off to Takapuna Rugby Club in Northcote. We had 8 teams representing our amazing school.

My first game was against Milford Primary and we won 11-8. This was only my second game ever and it was so much fun. We were off to a flying start.

The second game, we weren’t so successful. We were defeated by Takapuna Primary in a close one! 8-9 is the final score. Katie Conroy played exceptionally well and scored a whopping 3 tries!

In the third game, I scored my first ever try! Not just one, but two tries! Wow, what a feeling! Unfortunately, we lost this game to Belmont Primary, but I couldn’t care less, as scoring a try was such a fun experience!

Our fourth and final game was against Pinehurst. Although we came second in this match, Ngaio Begg scored a brilliant try by sprinting the whole field off a wonderful pass from Emily Chapman-Smith! What a memorable moment for our team!

As for the other teams, there were mixed results. Some awesome victories, a handful of nail-biter close matches. I really enjoyed cheering on our other teams from the sidelines.

This tournament was so much fun and I hope to go again next year!

On the 4th August I played in a Ripper tournament for the school. It was so much fun. My team played in the year 3-4 group and won 3 out of 4 games. We competed against 4 teams from other schools. Some of the students went in the bus and some of us went by car.

It was really cool to be able to represent our school and I think everyone enjoyed it.
