SBS Speech Finals

Karyn Barnes-Pownall —

A confident and creative group of students presented a variety of topics when they competed in the SBS Speech Finals on Monday.

Well done to all the finalists for your courage and determination to stand up & deliver in front of your peers, a skill that many find daunting.  The judges commented that the quality and content of all the speeches was very high.

Congratulations to Harry - 1st ('Why football has become too commercialised'), Thomas - 2nd ('Why camels are cool') and Dorothea - 3rd ('Shark Finning') who took out the top spots and went on to compete at the Peninsula Schools Speech finals at Bayswater Primary yesterday.

Noah (room 7) described his nerves prior to stepping up first:

Here I am, school speech finals. I said to my parents before the class speeches: “Imagine if I make it to the school finals” and I’ve done it! I’m up first … oh no, I’m up first, I don’t want to be first argghh … the pressure! I’m walking up to the stage knees shaking, quivering all over... “Did you know we are eating plastic …” I’ve started … 2 minutes later.

I have finished my speech, everyone is clapping, that was one of the hardest moments of my life! I am so proud of myself.  Noah, Room 7
