Cross Country

Rachael Hamilton —

Stanley Bay students have been training hard all term for the cross country. The children put their hearts into the event and pushed themselves to complete the course. The results are at the bottom of this article. Congratulations to everyone who took part.

Creative writing skills were also put to the test this term, below are some recounts of how the children were feeling during the event:

Sitting on the grass waiting for our turn to run. Everything’s going through my head thinking about what would happen in the race and who would win. I was a bit nervous but mainly excited. But then Mrs Pelham called us up. “On your marks, get set, bam!!” We were off running as hard as we could. We did two laps of the field and two half laps of the hill. It was a bit stressful but I got through it and I came 4th. I was so happy but a bit out of breath. Heidi O Rm 9

As I sat down on the tarpaulin I watched the cross country go by. I saw the year four and year fives run to the finish line as I sat in the scorching sun. Phoebe, Ruby, and I waited and waited until the year five girls had to run. When it was time to run, I stood up and walked slowly to the rope were all the other girls were standing ready to race. But if anyone else was not ready it would be me.”Ready, set, GO!” The clappers went bang I sprinted to the cones and was panting after seconds. As I ran I really regretted not bringing my drink bottle. As I ran up the LONG cross-country hill I threw my shoes onto the grass and ran straight down the hill when I got to the view of the rope I sprinted to the finish line. Livvie k Rm 9

It was Wednesday the 9th of September and I was at Stanley Bay Park. It was cross country and my race was next. I lined up. “Ready, set, go!” and I was off. The only sound was my labored breath and my pounding footsteps. I was exhausted by the tie I was up the first hill but I would not stop.

I was almost to the home stretch. I turned the corner and the cheers came! I crossed the finish line! Since I had not stopped running I had come in 5th.

I had done it. Brea B - Rm 6

It was a Wednesday afternoon. The sun was blazing hot and I was shivering then I heard “8-year-old boys!” I marched up to the starting line. I started to quiver then the blocks clapped and I started to sprint then I started to jog. My knees were aching, my face was sweating and I saw the crowd cheering.

Stanley Bay Park is huge! I thought in my head. I saw the hill then I started to jog again. I saw the juniors cheering, I waved at them, and then guess what, another hill! I started to walk up panting and sweating. I was tired, hot, and sweaty. I saw the hill and was going to sprint down but then I thought if I spring I will lose all my energy so I jogged. I saw the finish line. Woo hoo! I made it! Derin S -Rm 6

Amazing recounts!
