Ropu Kakano Zero Waste Zone Trip

Emma Gauntlett —

On the 15th and 16th of June Ropu Kanano children embarked on an adventure to the Waitakere Transfer Station to their Zero Waste Zone.

This was a fantastic day spent learning about waste and what happens when things are thrown away. We learnt about the impact that rubbish and waste in landfills have on our environment and how we can reduce the amount of waste we send to landfills by making small changes to our routines at home.

The children and parents learnt about composting, worm farming and recycling. All of the children enjoyed spending some time in their creative outdoor space and loved the pedal powered water feature!

We are taking this learning back to Stanley Bay and this will help us create our own Stanley Bay Community Composting Hub.

We will be asking for some parent support with various projects and jobs related to this over the coming weeks so keep an eye and ear out for ways you can help.

A huge thank you to the parents that helped on the trip, we can't do it without you!
