This term we are promoting the SBS value of resilience, we often talk to the children about mistakes being a part of learning and how to bounce back when things don't go our way. This is something I am sure you experience at home!

The Peninsula Interschool cross country was held on Friday 14 June.

Room 14 have been learning about natural disasters and used this storm picture to write a setting description using adjectives and verbs.

Our SBS team came 9th out of 16 school teams across Auckland in the regional tournament last week. It was a whole day of tough chess against the best players in Auckland so well played team!

The fundraising website we are using for the Stanley Bay Stampede requires unique email address for each child’s profile. We found this might prove challenging for families with 3 or more children at the school.

As we approach the middle of the school year we encourage students to reflect on their progress and identify some learning challenges for the remainder of the school year.

The inaugural Stanley Bay Stampede obstacle course and mud run are on Sunday 4th of August. This event is open to Stanley Bay families and the wider community.

Our goal is to develop new clinical methods for arresting the progression of myopia in children, and as such we are currently running a study on a new spectacle lens for myopia.

Teachers, who are NZEI and PPTA union members, are to participate in what is being called a 'mega teacher strike’. Due to the number of teachers striking the Board has decided to close the school on Wednesday 29 May.

To keep you informed about teaching and learning we are going to be including a section in the news bulletin that aims to unpack some of the jargon in and around education with the aim of helping the school community better understand what we do in school and why we do it.

On 21 May we hosted a chess tournament for peninsula schools.

Save the date - Sunday 4 August sees the inaugural Stanley Bay Mud Run. We’re planning a fun and challenging course across the school and Ngataringa Navy fields, with obstacles for kids of all ages (& their parents). Get ready for the slip and slide into a giant mud pit!

Organised by Auckland Transport & led by Big Foot Adventures - bringing the outdoors directly to school!

On Sunday 4 August, FOSB are planning an obstacle and mud run to raise community spirit and have a whole lot of fun.

The NZEI has advised the Stanley Bay Board of Trustees that the Principal and teachers at our school will be taking strike action on Wednesday 29 May.

As you will be aware from the recent media coverage the number of measles cases in Auckland has risen and cases continue to spread. The information in this article has been provided by the Ministry of Education and circulated in all Auckland schools.

On Thursday 2 May 50 children from Y3-6 participated in the Rippa Tournament held at the Takapuna Rugby club. It was a great day, below are snippets of the children's writing.

Last term Rymans Healthcare donated a beautiful playhouse....and now it is open for adventure!

There are a few things happening behind the scenes for Devonport Schools Waterwise, the biggest being the formation of a fundraising committee with a plan to raise $100,000 over the next 2 years to replace all of their Optimist Dinghi’s, 3 patrol boats and some of their kayaks and other safety equipment

Last week Nano Girl provoked our thinking and showed how science is all around us and how FUN it can be.

On Friday 5 April, FOSB ran the inaugural Twilight bowls night at the Stanley Bay Bowls & Pétanque club.

On 21 May we are hosting the local schools annual Chess Power tournament...and its not too late to get involved!
