Isla Huffadine —

Wow Week 5 is complete - marking the half way point for Term 2! We've had a quieter few days, with the rain cancelling many sporting games and practices. Those who have braved the cold had great results, making up for running around in the miserable conditions! On Tuesday the sun came out, boosting the mood around the hostel (hopefully no more rain for a while..) ☀

On Saturday Grace Hastie and Libby Drummond played their club rugby match at Forsyth Barr Stadium (covered from the rain!). It was a close game, with a last minute kick securing them the 34-31 win! There are also two familiar faces from last year in the team - Zoe and Savannah! Great work girls 👏

The weekend activity was Leap and Clip 'n' Climb on Sunday. The girls had a great time bouncing, climbing and burning off energy - some also showed impressive tricks on the trampolines!

On Monday evening we had our weekly Tribe Dinner, this time with games involved. Ziggy organised mystery bags for the Tribes and the groups each needed to create two outfits. We saw all sorts of designs, styles and trends - each very unique! After 10 minutes of styling, the models came and strutted our very own catwalk. It felt like we were on a season of Project Runway, especially with the sass and attitude shown in the final 'strut'. We were very impressed with the level of creativity shown and effort each Tribe put in - well done!

Prizes were awarded following Tribe dinner (after much anticipation), from the Open Day door designs. There were lots of large grins as the winners saw their huge block of chocolate prize! The level of effort each cohort put in this year was outstanding - the Year 8 students loved seeing what was created for them 😍

You may have noticed that our amazing Mrs Rust has been missing from her usual spot in the office... She had hip surgery on Monday and is away for a few weeks, spending time recovering at home. She is in high spirits after a successful surgery and we wish her all the best for a speedy recovery! Lots of love from Tolcarne coming your way Mrs Rust 😘💝

Our Tuesday Year 9 activity this week was clay jewellery making, which was a success! We made all types of rainbow creations, ranging from rings and bracelets to crafty animal sculptures! After baking and glazing the designs, they were ready for wear 💍🌈

Koru this week for the Year 10's started by looking at various statements around trust, having to decide whether they were points we agreed or disagreed with. It was an interesting discussion, with each student having different opinions on the statements and how they may look in real life situations. Using the ideas from our conversation, each group put together a skit that showed how trust can be broken and rebuilt. The girls are always so enthusiastic with their performances, which made it difficult act for Robyn and Isla to follow!

Take a look at our finalised 2021 Tolcarne video! It shows more of what daily life for a St Hilda's boarder looks like, along with a sneak peak at our amazing facilities 🤩

We are closed this weekend for Queen's Birthday, reopening on Monday at 3pm. There are some special visitors staying while we are away... the Magic netball team! We wish them all the best for their games in Dunedin. Have a well deserved extended weekend, a half way break before the last 5 weeks of term. See you all on Monday evening 💖
