Prefect Netball
On Friday, we had Otago Boys prefect group here for prefect netball. These contests always draws the crowd and a lot laughs are had. It was also great to be able to use our new LED screen/scoreboard for the first time. Our SHCS prefects took the win 14-10.
Thank you to the Grassroots Trust for their support to St Hilda's in us securing the screen, as well as Spa Pools Otago and the school board. It is going to benefit our PE classes, sport competitions and community groups.
Regional Aerobic Competition
Fantastic weekend for all our aerobic competitors at the Otago Regional Aerobics Competition. Full of energy, stamina and sparkles, we had brilliant results for all our teams. Many groups are now heading to nationals in September (at the time of print, we were still waiting on receiving all the results).
Figure Skating
Year 8 student Lydia Peters competed in the South Island Figure Skating Championships last weekend in Gore. Lydia has had a stellar year, winning every competition in which she has entered. South Island's was her first time competing in Basic Novice Girls, an impressive two grades higher than the grade that she competed in last year. Not only did she take away the Basic Novice Girls' title, but she also achieved a Technical Element Score high enough to qualify for Nationals.
The Corinne Gilkison Cup, taking place in Dunedin over the weekend of August 31 - September 1, will see Lydia, along with SHCS students Arlea Lewis and Yolanda Liu (Year 10) and Caitlin Ellett (Year 11) compete in the final competition in the South Island before Nationals in October. We wish them well for this event.
Clay trap shooting
Recently Isla Wilson and Emily Cleghorn competed in the Balfour Intercollegiate competition. It was quite a windy day but Isla achieved a high overall ladies single Barrel and Emily got 1st Ladies Single Rise.

Re purpose old sports gear:
Next week, please bring in any used sports equipment that you have lying around. Our sports prefects Ruby and Holly are working with Sport Otago to connect with communities to help redistribute this gear.
