Tolcarne —

Kia ora Everyone

What a busy Week 5 it has been! The week started off with the NZQA exams officially beginning. Good luck to all of our wonderful students - you will do great πŸ’•. Tolcarne has been a little quiet without our Year 12 and 13s on study leave.

Last week in Koru with the Year 9s we talked about how we would welcome the new Year 9 cohort for 2024 on Thursday night for the sleepover. We finished the night with a few fun Limbo and Elastic Jumping competitions. It was a super fun Koru session and many giggles were shared 🀩

Last Thursday night we welcomed our incoming Year 9 cohort for 2024 into Tolcarne while the Year 10s were away on camp. The brave-looking students arrived at 5:00 pm so they could experience a dinner at Tolcarne, which was then followed by mingling time in the lounge with Robyn and Beth. They had organised various games to get the students up and about talking to others that they might not have met before. It was nice to see how well the students bonded on their first interactions as a year group. Robyn spoke about how Tolcarne is going to be their home for the next five years and that it is a place of belonging and community and where they are going to make so many memories for years to come. πŸ˜‹

Once this was done, we welcomed our current Year 9s into the lounge to mingle with the students. We went outside and played a very fun game of β€˜Throw the Egg’ and 'Tug of War', thanks to Mr McGarry. There were a lot of laughs and giggles and it was nice to see our future Year 9 and 10s getting on so well. πŸ€ͺπŸ§šπŸ»β€β™€οΈ

There was no Tolcarne weekend activity due to the low numbers in the hostel but we do look forward to the Waihola Camp next weekend.

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and remembered to recharge their batteries for Week 6.
