Sports Update
Luge
Maggie Dowling is in Latvia at the moment, and will be heading to Altenberg in Germany on Saturday for a weeks training. She has had a lot of ups and downs and it has been tough, but Maggie is improving every day. She is going 88 kilometres per hour going down the track at the moment - so very fast!
Golf
Anahera Koni has been selected to play in the Otago Open Women's Golf team. The team played for South Island titles over the weekend.
Cricket
Well done to the following students who were selected into the Otago Sparks and Otago A Cricket team for their first match of the season in Timaru versus Canterbury.
Otago Sparks: Chloe Deerness
Otago A: Hannah Wilson, Hannah O'Connor and Anna McClean
Sport Leadership Breakfast
On Friday, Senior Sport Leaders took the opportunity to listen to, and meet with, Maddy Campbell. Maddy is a local Dunedin student who has been on an incredible journey in Volleyball in America. She talked about playing different sports at a young age, then discovering Volleyball at high school, making NZ Age Group teams and then taking a risk to go on a Scholarship to College in Kentucky. Maddy spoke about all the highs and lows to achieving her goals and the determination to improve and maintain consistency in her game. Finding her own self identity was crucial for her to go from the bench to a starting player and highlighted how important it was to stay focused and be a team player, then make the most of the time you get on court.
Rowing
Our rowing squad had its first regatta in the weekend, The Aoraki 1000. This is a great regatta to introduce our new novices to regatta life, and a fantastic way to get out on the water early in the season. Many A and B finals were achieved for all our crews. Well done to Georgia Graham who came 2nd in the U16 Single Sculls and Perri and Lola who crossed in 4th in the Open Women's Coxless Pairs Oars.
