Kia ora e te whānau,
The term is flying by and it does help that the weather is getting better and better. During prep times, I had the opportunity to supervise our senior students while they were working towards their benchmark exams. They should be very proud of their efforts.
Last Monday, we had a full dining room for our Tribe dinner, due to most winter sports being finished, it is nice seeing the whole boarding house together to share a meal. During this Tribe dinner, a few prizes were given out using the chocolate wheel to those students who had completed Tribe cards.
Congratulations to all those students for completing their cards to be included in the draw. A reminder to all students to get in and help out when you can to earn your Tribe points - the end of year count up is not far away!
Night prayers with Dr Townsley were also on Monday night. It was great to see the lounge full of junior and senior students. Juniors need to complete three night prayers a year.
Lauren hosted an afternoon activity on Tuesday for our junior students. This activity was getting creative with old egg cartons. It is amazing the resources you can use to create something wonderful. Ka mahi, good job!
On Wednesday night Robyn facilitated a reflection time for the Year 9s which revealed what they found fearful and what people found courage with. Many found singing very difficult and because of this, we asked Nat to lead us in a singing session as she played the guitar.
On Thursday evening, the Dunedin Police had a chat with our students. Sgt Emily Plew and Sgt Steve Jones came to facilitate workshops this week, focusing on 'Social media stuff for Teenagers', for our juniors, and with the help of Tuturu, the seniors participated in a workshop around "Making Better Choices" (eg: parties, porn, driving).
Bex took a group of Year 9 students away for a surprise game on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. The surprise game turned out to be a game of frisbee golf. This seemed to be a great adventure as many of the students had never played frisbee golf before and it was good to get out of the hostel on a Sunday morning while the weather was nice. Thanks, Bex!
Also on Sunday, Barb, one of our wonderful kitchen staff made smoothie bowls with a few of the Year 9 students. These are delicious, and so simple and easy to make! What a great and healthy choice to fill you up! Ka pai Barb!
Ka kite koe i tera wiki,
Beth Anderson 💜🌸
