The Dunedin Performing Arts Competitions Society
Last weekend we had Charlotte Kim (Year 11) enter the The Dunedin Performing Arts Competitions Society (DPACS) Instrumental competition. The instrumental competition is aimed at classical music, played on orchestral instruments or piano and had Rachel Thomson and Bridget Douglas as Adjudicators.
Charlotte performed well and placed second place in the Classic Romantic Solo section and placed third place in the Baroque Solo section.
Well done Charlotte.
Bandquest Competition
Over the weekend St Hilda’s was represented by a band of Year 8s at the Bandquest competition held at the Taieri College Performing Arts Centre. The Bandquest competition provides a platform for Year 7 and 8 students to perform music in a supportive and encouraging competition format.
Our students formed the band, Perfect Disasterz, which consisted of Mia Braithwaite (bass), Ziva Curtis (guitar), Charlotte Hesson (drums), Kara Pullar (keyboard), Amber Rasmussen (voice). They performed “Everybody Talks” by Neon Trees and “Space Girl” by Frances Forever.
Our students performed at a high level and have been going from strength to strength in their confidence on stage. They can be very proud of their performance.
Celebrate Art Awards
The Celebrate Art Awards were held at the Otago Polytechnic School of Art Gallery last week. Ten of our students were selected to take part in the Secondary Schools Annual Exhibition. It was wonderful to see the wide array of work selected from across Dunedin Secondary Schools and our school represented by ten Year 13 photography and painting students. Well done.
Congratulations to Sabine Mason for receiving an Excellence Award.
