Library News

Carrie Bouffard —

Lots has been happening in the Library this term! We have introduced eBooks and Audiobooks, welcomed visiting authors, enjoyed a bustling Book Week, and were lucky enough to host a wonderful Arts Festival activity.

The eBooks and Audiobooks have generated a lot of interest. With over 1,800 eBooks and nearly 800 Audiobooks available there are plenty of options for all of our readers. The ability to tailor reading experiences using different fonts, background colours, and spacing options has also been welcomed by many students. I encourage everyone to check out the platform over the holidays. You can access the platform here or from our library catalogue, and I have prepared some instructions to get you started.

Book Week was a tremendous amount of fun and the buzz in the library was fantastic! A highlight for me was seeing the effort that both staff and students put into their costumes when they came to school dressed as a favourite book character. Another bright spot was getting to listen in on some terrific writing workshops with visiting authors Vanda Symon and Kyle Mewburn. Students were interested and engaged and came away with some promising pieces of writing that I hope they will continue to develop.

I also loved seeing the entries in the photo contests. Please enjoy a few of these gems from the Reading in the Wild and Bookface entries! I was very impressed by our students’ creativity (and their ability to squeeze into tight spots).

The Arts Festival had the whole school in a glorious uproar and the library was lucky enough to host the Eliana Gray Poetry Quilt Project, which saw students busily cutting up old books and magazines to collage as they created art and poetry. I especially enjoyed watching our students discover how old-fashioned typewriters work! Their pieces were made into a quilt which will be on display in the library foyer next term.

I wish you all a lovely holiday and I look forward to seeing you in the library next term.
