Tolcarne News

Isla Huffadine —

It has been a week of all things Easter at Tolcarne, celebrating early before we head home for the holidays.

We were able to hold our first full hostel Tribe Dinner on Monday, due to an increase of numbers allowed indoors. It was a great chance to have everyone together in their Tribes, feeling like we are returning to more of the 'norm'.

Dinner was of course Easter themed, with the yearly appearance from the Easter Bunny aka Ross! He was in his signature bunny costume, complete with pink slippers! His little helpers gave everyone a golden egg, before we had the delicious Malteser dessert. 🐰🐣

To finish the evening we had our annual Easter Egg Hunt! This is always a favourite and competition was at an all time high. There were screams as Mrs Rathbone counted down, all sprinting to find the big bunnies and golden eggs. With Tribe Points up for grabs, it was great to see everyone involved with the hunt!

Everyone was on a sugar buzz after this, enjoying the start of the Easter themed goodies 🍫

After school on Tuesday we got busy with Easter themed crafts. The Year 9s attempted gift boxes that looked like wee bunnies or chicks. We also created different types of Easter cards. This activity wouldn't have been complete without some sweet treats, the perfect way to spend our afternoon! Next week we will be baking goodies to go inside of the boxes, perhaps you might be the lucky recipient of one!

On Wednesday evening the Year 9 group had Koru. During this session everyone finished off their 'Life Map', adding the final touches to make them personalised. This was a great task and next week we will present them to the group. It is interesting for us all to find out more about those within the year. Everyone is so unique, but I think we may discover there are many similarities and connections people share!

My Flat Rules was held on Wednesday, with each flat receiving mystery cooking ingredients. The judges were impressed with the way these key items were incorporated into each course, with one flat even taking them back in time with a chocolate chip cream log for dessert!

Ocean took out the overall win, with their chilli mince lettuce cups, slow cooked lamb with eggplant and bok choy and chocolate coffee cake to finish. Robyn, Ziggy and Ange were impressed with the enthusiasm from all Year 13s involved - well done 👩‍🍳

How cute is this... Robyn was doing some late night sewing to make sure one of our students could sleep with her soft toy that night 🐻 Now that is commitment - go Robyn!!

This weekend is our final weekend for the term and the juniors have the option to head to Sand Fly Bay. Good luck to everyone who has sporting trials this weekend, we hope they go well!

Enjoy the final weekend, before the last 4 days at school. We've hired out Rialto to head to the movies as a hostel on Monday evening, so even more to look forward to in the final week 🤩 mā te wā 👋
