St Hilda's Parents & Friends Association - helping out the school, its students and its community.

Nicky Aldridge-Masters —

Following our very successful school fair in March, and taking into consideration the challenges of 2020, the PFA has decided to put a pause on fundraising initiatives for the remainder of the year and instead focus on ways in which the PFA can support the school and the school community.

As announced back in May, we approved funding for a list of items suggested by Teachers that could be beneficial for the girls and their learning now and in the future. The list of items included: a number of items for food technology; a range of design books for DVC; a screen printer for textiles; an interactive touch screen kiosk for digital technology; speakers and beanbags for the music room; scientific balances for the science department; a new set of Kapa Haka uniforms; a toasted sandwich grill for the students kitchen; and ebooks/audio books for the library.

These items have now been purchased and have been put to good use in Term 3. Many thanks to Jo O’Neill who presented to us on the benefits of the new items purchased for the food technology room – we were very impressed with the presentation that included pictures of the girls cooking efforts. Ka pai!

In June the PFA also approved funding for an upgrade of the main student toilets – these toilets have been in bad shape for a long time and are the main toilets used by the public when functions are held at the school. The upgrade will be not only in functionality but will also make the toilets a more inviting environment for both students and visitors.

Sadly our sports and culture fund, has not had many applications this year due to the impact of COVID 19. Please do remember if your daughter is lucky enough to be participating in a regional or national sports or cultural event, she can apply to the PFA for funding support. The PFA is currently reviewing the application criteria and amount of funds available, but all applications will continue to be supported in the interim. Click here for the application form.

In term 4 we are looking forward to hosting a family picnic event prior to our annual Christmas Carol concert at the end of November. An invitation will be sent out to families at the start of term 4.

If you want to come along to a PFA meeting, we would love you to join us (Dad’s are welcome too) – our next meeting is Wednesday 28 October, 7pm in the School Library.
