Technology Spotlight: Junior Technology and Senior Food Technology

Junior students in the Technology department have had a busy and creative term, designing and developing a variety of outcomes. The Year 7 and 8 classes learned how to create their own felt and then designed and sewed softies and pouches, using the felt they created. See below for a note from the girls regarding their technology project!

The Year 9 students are currently working in teams to create an Aotearoa themed wearable arts garment, that they will showcase in a Term 3 fashion show. They used inspiration from their field trip to the Otago Museum, visiting the Fashion Forward, Tāngata Whenua and Pacific Cultures galleries to develop their designs. In the Year 10 option classes, the students have been designing and creating 3D models, eTextiles projects, scrunch bags, hoodies and furniture designs.

In Food Technology, Year 11 students have designed a Matariki themed food item for their whanaungatanga groups. The Year 13 students developed various healthy options for the school canteen. A highlight for the staff was to sample a variety of delicious and healthy snack alternatives during our staff meetings, which were developed by the Year 12 Food Technology class.

Sylvie Harper, Year 8

In Technology for the whole of Term Two, the Year 8s have been sewing, cutting, tracing and flat felting away so that they can create these stylish pouches. They are made to be durable, versatile and obviously very beautiful! So well done Year 8s on these amazing creations.

Year 7 students

In Technology the Year 7s learnt all about felt this term. Then we were given the brief to create a softie toy from wool products. We had to learn and practice many skills before starting our final product, but I’m sure you’ll agree that all our practice was worth it. Don’t they look so cute and cuddly!
