First XI Cricket Returns to Nationals

Rachael Parker —

On Monday, our cricket team played Columba in the Gillette Venus Regional Cup Final. When I picture cricket, I see sunny skies, warm temperatures and lying on the embankment enjoying a good game. Unfortunately the weather on Monday did not provide the sun and warmth, but instead a cold and drizzly morning. Our girls started off in the field and despite Columba getting good runs in the first 3 overs, once the first wicket fell, it wouldn't take long before our girls were on a roll. After a small rain delay that team got back out there and finished the job getting Columba out for 61. But the rain came back just as our girls were padded up and ready to head to the crease. Back in they came and the wait was long. Once it stopped and the covers came off and thanks to the DWLS, the team had to get 50 off 15 overs. Our top 4 batsman made light work of the score and we came out on top! The team are now off to Nationals in Palmerston North in December. Well done to Chloe Deerness who took 4 wickets and named MVP of the final and to Jordan Meltzer who took vital runs at the crease.
