Year 7 and 8 Taonga Pūoro Workshop
The Year 7s and 8s had the wonderful privilege of a Taonga Pūoro workshop last Friday with Taonga Pūoro expert Bob Bickerton from Nelson. Bob has worked with many musicians and artists with taonga pūoro including Hirini Melbourne, Richard Nunns and Brian Flintoff.
Bob presented each taonga pūoro with a story about its creation and meaning in Māori culture. A favourite among the students was the Pūtātara for its loud sound and they were also very interested in the Nguru because it is played with your nose!
