Chapel Matters

Gillian Townsley —

As an Anglican school, we usually do something in each of the first three terms of the year to support Anglican Family Care (AFC), but this has been such an extraordinary year so far that Term Three is the first chance we have had to do something for them!

We always link our support of AFC with our end of term Eucharist service since the word “eucharist” means “thanksgiving;” not only are we expressing our thanks to God for the self-giving love of Jesus for us, but we can also show our love for others by giving to them out of our generosity and resources.

This term we are keen to support the work they do with Respite Care for families in need (see this link for more information).

Sometimes children need to be taken into respite care at short notice and the caregivers do not have the resources for providing fun or educational activities for them. So we want to provide some “Caregiver packs” for AFC to give to these caregivers. Each Whanaungatanga Group has been given an age of a child to put together a selection of activities and items for a pack over the term to bring to the end-of-term Eucharist. You might like to see what near-new items you have at home that could suit this project, or see what you can buy for the pack. Here are some ideas AFC have suggested:
