This Week In Sport...

Triathlon: Last Thursday we had 17 girls take part in the Otago Secondary Schools Triathlon at Challenge Wanaka. The girls competed well in the very hot conditions & new course out in Glendu Bay.

We had a 3 teams & 8 individuals competing in the Challenge.
Congratulations to all these girls for challenging yourself & for the amazing results you achieved.
Thank you to the parents who supported our girls out there & a special thanks to Mike McConachie & Maddie for taking the van.

Surf Lifesaving: Charlotte Aburn competed in the Southern regional champs for surf lifesaving on the 14th February and won gold medals in run swim run, surf swim, Dimond and Board race. Her team event with Kyla Ashton they gained gold medals in tube rescue and board rescue. Charlotte came top competitor overall in the South Island and Kyla came second over all. She's currently competing at Marko National swimming event this weekend and then onto Nationals coming up 25th Feb.

Swimming: Congratulations to Anna and Sophie Hutchens who competed in the NZ Secondary Schools Open Water Champs 2km race at the weekend. With 180 swimmers it was a big race. Results were as follows:

Anna - 2nd in the NZSS category and 6th/100 female overall and Sophie- 1st in NZSS category and 19th/100 female overall.

Otago Southland Secondary Schools’ Water Ski Championships

On Sunday 21st February the St Hilda’s water ski team competed in the annual Otago Southland Secondary Schools’ Slalom Water Skiing Championships held at Perkins Pond, near Miller’s Flat. This year there were 34 skiers from 13 secondary schools who competed across three age groups and on two slalom course widths - novice and championship. Skiers carved tightly through the six-buoy slalom course increasing their speed in 3km increments after each pass. The starting speed is 40km/hr progress up to 55 km/hr. Points are awarded for the number of buoys and the highest speed at which they completed the buoy turns.

Our 2021 St Hilda’s team comprised of three skiers: Sophie Shallard, Maisie McGregor (both Year 13) and Maddie Cockburn (Year 11). Their three totalled points scores over the two rounds of slalom competition placed St Hilda’s 5th team overall in the co-ed tournament. Congratulations to our 2021 team.
