The Arts Update

Arts Coordinator —

Year 11s Linocuts

These linocuts extend from their observational drawings of town belt animals. They explore which plants introduce a species and focus on New Zealand native species as well. Examining compositional types involves achieving balance on the picture plane while determining which artistic style best suits their chosen animal. They are also exploring a new skill with linocut techniques through experimentation.

Year 10s Wire Sculpture

The Year 10 students crafted wire structures, layered them with fine tissue paper mache, painted the sculptures, and constructed plinths. During creation, they focused on structure, proportions, and portraying the key features of the animals. These vibrant sculptures offer unique representations of different animal species.

The Big Sing

Congratulations to our Sings Hilda students who took part in The Big Sing. A Secondary Schools choral festival organised by the New Zealand Choral Federation.

Our Sings Hilda members did themselves very proud, putting in the work leading up to this event and gave it your best on stage performing beautifully.

Well done on a super day!

Rockquest Otago Finals - Daniel Potter

On Saturday, 15 June a sold-out Mayfair Theatre was packed with a keen audience ready for the Rockquest Otago Regional Finals where St Hilda’s was represented by The Sapphire Skies.

The Sapphire Skies consists of Sophie Beardmore (guitar), Olive Fulton (bass), Anna Gent (keyboard), Alice Graham (guitar), Sylvie Harper (voice), Lila Howley (drums) and they rounded out the evening with their two original songs, ‘Trust’ and ‘Prey in the Prowl’.

The whole band performed at a high level, with Sylvie Harper winning Best Vocalist award for the Otago region. Well done to Sylvie and the rest of the band. They can be super proud of the music they’ve created together and their quality performance. I look forward to seeing more of The Sapphire Skies!
