Summer Tournament Week

Rachael Parker —

A lot of action this week as Summer Tournament comes to a close ....

Touch

Last weekend, South Island Secondary Schools Touch was held in Christchurch. After day one, the girls were unbeaten with games against Christchurch Girls, Nelson College, Motueka and Queens. Day two and finals day meant that we played Rangi Ruru and Marlborough Girls in the semi final. With a 6-4 win, the team faced Columba College in the final. Unfortunately, Columba proved too strong for us but the team are super proud of their achievement and being second in the South Island is pretty awesome!

Cricket

After a rain affected day one, our Cricket team took on Wakatipu on Monday morning as apart of the Girls First XI Bates Cup. Batting first up, Megha Senthilkumar scored 40 runs with team scoring 108 after 20 overs. In the field, the girls restricted Wakatipu to 91 with Lyla Hemmingsen, Ella Murphy and Charlotte Stafford chipping in with 2 wickets each. In the final, the team played Otago Girls. OGHS batted first and finished their 20 overs with 112 so it was a tough outing out in the field. Unfortunately, we struggled to get partnerships going and were bowled out in the 14th over. Plenty of learnings for our young team and no doubt that we will be back into the contest next year.

Volleyball

The Senior Volleyball team competed in the SI Satellite competition in Christchurch. Playing in Division 1 this year, games were going to be hard but there is always great learning from every game. The team started with a win over Wakatipu which put us into the second tier of crossovers. Having to come up against Bayfield on the second day. There has been massive improvement in the teams skill and scramble ability, which saw exciting point rallies. Final placing was 8th in Division 1.

Water Polo

Our Water Polo team had a great start to their SISS campaign yesterday with a comprehensive win against Southland 18-1. A closer game against STAC in the afternoon but they came out on the right side of the score 7-5. Good luck for the rest of the tournament.

Triathlon

New Zealand Secondary Schools Triathlon was held in Wānaka this week. The school was represented with three teams in the U12, U14, U16 and Honor Garden as an U18 individual. Congratulations to our U12 team of Koa Shanks, Pippa Thomas and Gria Crossan who are now National Champions. The U14s of Mela Shanks, Leila Kindiak, and Neave O'Connell finished 4th. Zoe Lithgow, Augusta Howden and Lucia Dimond finished 3rd and Honor came in 14th.

Wonderful results for our Triathletes.

Rowing

It's been a tough week for our rowers who unfortunately has been struck with illness within the squad. The crews were tracking well mid week with our boats all still racing and going for semi finals spots. With several changes to boats, some crews have missed out on A finals. As a whole squad they are dealing with these ups and downs like champions and going out and giving 100% effort and doing the school proud. Georgia Graham and Bonnie Turner have made the A final in the U17 Double Sculls.

Diving

Congratulations to Lucia Luxton who has competed at the recent 2025 Dubai International Aquatic Championships. As a member of the NZ Junior Elite Springboard team, Lucia competed in the platform, 1m and 3m events. She gained a PB in the platform and finished 4th, 4th in the 1m and 6th in 3m. Well done Lucia!

Thank you to all our amazing coaches, managers, supporters and parents that have contributed to this week and to all our summer teams as we come to the end of Term 1.
