Swimming Liaison Report

2020 has been an unpredictable year for St Hildas Swimmers due to Covid 19. It caused pool closures and 2 national swimming competitions; NZ Age Group Championships + NZ Secondary Schools to be cancelled, which was disappointing as we have swimmers who medal & and are top in the country.

We were however able to have Otago Secondary Schools Champs and a strong team of nine swimmers representing St Hildas: Anna, Natalie & Sophie Hutchens, Meg McLaughlan, Jessica Scott, Ella-Rose Crooks, Sophie Shellard, Malaika Ogbuhei and Lindsay Black.

6 of the athletes won a medal, and all the swimmers gained a top 10 placing.

Jess Scott - 1st in 50m, 100m, 200m Fly and 1st in 100 IM

Ella-Rose Crooks - 4th in 50m Free, 5th in 200m Free, 7th in 100m Free

Lindsay Black - 5th in 100m Back, 8th in 50m Back

Anna Hutchens - 3rd in 400m Free, 4th in 100m Free, 5th in 200m Free, 7th in 100m Free

Natalie Hutchens - 3rd in 50m Free, 3rd in 50m Back, 4th in 50m Fly

Sophie Hutchens - 2nd in 200m Breast, 3rd in 100m Fly, 3rd in 200 IM, 6th in 50m Fly and 50m Breast

Meg McLaughlan - 2nd in 400m Free, 3rd in 200m Free, 5th in 100 IM

Malaika Ogbuehi - 4th in 100m Breast

Sophie Shallard - 2nd in 200m Free, 4th in 50m Free and 4th in 200 IM

They have trained hard throughout the year, continuing as best they can around covid-19 restrictions and competition cancellations. They are hoping to put all this hard work into action when they compete at South Islands and National Short Course later this year if all goes to plan.
