Basketball Liaison Report

Once again we see another successful basketball season at St Hilda’s coming to a close. With 17 teams competing in the weekly Senior Friday, or Intermediate Monday night competitions (this being 6 more teams than last year), St Hilda’s has put a strong foot out in the local basketball scene. This figure was made up of competitive teams who play at the Edgar Centre, and social teams who play at various school gyms around Dunedin.

Due to COVID.19, all Secondary Schools basketball tournaments were cancelled. This meant we were unable to send any teams away to compete during tournament week in early September. This was particularly gutting for our Junior A side who came a close second at their South Island tournament last year and were looking for redemption!

With the final round of the weekly competition being played this week, both Senior and Junior A sides will be looking to finish their seasons on a high. The Senior A is playing off for 3rd/4th against Taieri College, while the Junior A is in the final against Columba College in their respective grades. Both of these games will be hotly contested so good luck to both squads.

Overall it has been a great season of basketball here at St Hilda’s with large amounts of improvements being made at all levels. We hope to see the strength and improved numbers back next year!
