Bandquest

This week St Hilda’s was represented by 2 bands at Bandquest. The live event wasn’t able to be held this year due to Covid restrictions, so the bands were filmed performing at school and entered online. Bandquest provides a platform for Year 7 and 8 students to perform music in a supportive and encouraging competition format.

We had 10 students enter across Year 7 and 8 in 2 bands, called The Starless Skies and The Blue Gypsies. The Starless Skies consists of Sylvie Harper (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Alice Graham (lead guitar), Alice Bennett (keyboard), Milly Wright (bass), and Anna Gent (drums). They performed “Dreams” and “Rhiannon”, both by Fleetwood Mac.

The Blue Gypsies consists of Olivia Bezett (lead vocals), Millie Meder (acoustic guitar), Olive Fulton (keyboard + electric guitar), Jessica Hanna (bass), and Lila Howley (drums). They performed “Déjà vu” by Olivia Rodrigo, and “No Roots” by Alice Merton.

Both bands performed at a high level despite a Covid lockdown interrupting their ability to practice together and have been growing in confidence learning and performing their songs. All our students can be very proud of their performance and I look forward to seeing their musical potential grow in the coming years.
