St Hilda's Collegiate School

Dear Parents and Caregivers

We have continued to operate, work, learn and live with the Level 2 restrictions, and while they add another layer of complexity to the way we all go about our daily routines, it has been a timely reminder to look after others, be mindful of our own hygiene practices, and stay safe.

While the new restrictions certainly add some uncertainty to any forward planning we are mindful of ensuring any activities our students take part in are safe, well organised and have solid Health and Safety documentation behind them. As you can imagine this has created a lot of extra work for staff as they organise school groups and teams participating in different events, and then have to plan for several different scenarios and late changes to arrangements. I am incredibly grateful for the commitment and work ethic of our staff who are really wanting to ensure that any opportunities our students have to compte, contribute and participate in events are realised, while also being mindful of the safety of students and staff. A fine balancing act that could well continue for quite a while. I am sure you share with me, my thanks to the staff who continue to support the girls in their many activities.

Holding on to the positive and being grateful for what we do have, and what we have been able to enjoy is critical in these unsettling times. I am delighted that in the first few weeks we were able to host and all enjoy the Yr 12 & 13 Formal, and the Yr 11 Dance. Both events were superbly organised by the student committees responsible, and were a real credit to the girls' resilience and commitment to a quality event. So too was the Pink Ribbon breakfast organised and hosted by the Z Club, a positive initiative to support others, and build community. Our annual Quad tournament was able to go ahead after many altered plans and all these special events, long part of the school traditions, help build some wonderful memories for the students and are so precious to the culture and community of the school.

We continue with our academic programme and unless the circumstances change, do not expect any further adjustments to the NCEA requirements and 2020 programme for students in Otago. If there are any changes to NCEA criteria, we will notify students and parents immediately.

As you can all appreciate, we like all of you are riding the waves of change, keeping an eye on the conditions and adjusting accordingly, making sure everyone is not too far from the shore, and that we are all ready for the next wave.

Stay safe and we look forward to a productive, fulfilling and fun few weeks.

Jackie Barron
