Our Senior A Touch team competed in the Otago Secondary School Championships on Saturday here in Dunedin. After a close loss to Columba and a great win against Otago Girls, the team came up against Columba in the final. The game was very even and tries going to both teams. St Hilda's took the game 6-5 and saw our first win at the champs since 2016. A wonderful achievement to all involved and great to see younger players stepping up while seniors were away. The team was well led by Savannah Cleland and Jaide Dixon and we now look forward to Summer Quad and the South Island Champs.

The St Hilda’s tennis team travelled to Timaru over the weekend to compete in the South Island Secondary Schools tennis tournament.

The team of Mya Haigh, Charlie Byars, Amelia Newlands and Claudia Christie had a great weekend finishing 3rd overall and only missing placing second on countback, following a 3 all result in round 1 with Rangi Ruru.

The draw was not in our favour, with Saturday being a very big day for the team, starting at 8.30am and not finishing until 8.00pm, but the team competed hard and fairly, fighting for every point throughout the entire day.

Highlights for the weekend were the result vs Rangi who fielded a much older team and the final round which saw us win against Columba 6 nil.

This is a young team, who picked up some great experience, competing and holding their own against older girls, including some of the top players in New Zealand.

The future bodes well for tennis at St Hilda’s in the coming years.
