NZSS Netball Tournament

Our Senior A Netball team headed to Wellington in the school holidays for the New Zealand Secondary School Netball Championships.  The team was pooled with Hamilton Girls, St Peter's & St Mary's, 3 big netball schools so the first few days were going to tough.  After first pool play and having not taken a win we went into the next stage against Manu kura, St Andrew's and Christchurch Girls.  Unfortunately we had two players pick up a tummy bug and were unable to play Wednesday and Thursday.  We had a strong game against STAC, losing by 3 and then a good win over Christchurch Girls. The smiles were back as we had lost to CHCH girls in the semi final at SISS. On the last day, we played Queen Margaret for 13th. The team came out strong and took the game 40-35 after a fight back from Queen Margaret.  This tournament was a bonus for our team after our local season, it provided the players great learning opportunities and to experience the level that we need to be at to compete against the top.  It was also a great way to finished School Netball for our Year 13's.  Hamilton Girls won the competition beating St Margaret's in the Final.  Well done to our sister schools SMC and Columba for being in the top 8.  Thank you to our families who travelled and supported and those via social media.  Your support this year as been amazing.

Our girls batted first with openers Grace Hastie and Ella Gibson.  Grace top scored with 34 runs and the team total 95/4.  In the second innings, Otago Girls batted well and won the game.  Bowlers Hannah O'Connor and Hannah Wilson took a wicket each in the innings.

Sport Leaders Breakfast

Last Friday, 6 senior school athletes attended a sport leaders breakfast hosted by OSSSA.  Guest speaker for the morning was Courtney Duncan, World Champion in Motorcross.  Her speech was very inspiring, to see where she came from, what drove her to participate in the sport and how she over came her potential career ending injuries.  Courtney talked about respect, discipline, accountability, work ethic and team work as key values and standards that are vital to her success.

7&8 Modified Athletics Day:  Day one of term 4, our 7&8's headed to the Caledonian for a modified athletics day.  Again, we combined with Columba as both schools missed out on a full school day.  It was a crisp sunny morning but it was great to see our students being active and taking part in long jump, high jump, discuss, shot put and track.

Over this term, we have North Zone Athletics day and then onto Otago Primary Athletics day which we look forward to seeing our athletes compete in.  Well done to Victoria Aburn, Mia Braithwaite, Iona Jennings, Charlee Farquhar, Charlotte Watkins and Sam Williamson for going through to North Zones.
