Classics Competition

Who is the Greek goddess of wisdom?

Which Roman city was buried by the eruption of Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD?

What is the name of the three-headed dog who guards the Greek underworld?

Last Tuesday evening two teams of students competed in the annual Inter-School Classics Quiz held at Otago University. This is run by the Classical Studies Department and schools from all over Dunedin compete across different year levels. Our team names were the “Vestal Virgins” (Year 7 & 8s Evie Bennison, Charlie Wheeler, Tui Manning-Overton, Ida Rathbone) and “Hades’ Helpers” (Year 9 Haylee Kelly, Charlotte Kelly, Olivia Kelly and Euni Lee).

Some memorable team names from other schools were the “Mythinformed” and the “Illy-lads”! The students had a fun evening and I am sure they will be keen to enter again next year.

If anyone is interested in joining the Greek Club, we meet in Room 112 at lunchtime on Mondays.

Answers: Athena, Pompeii, Cerberus.
