Year 7 - 11 Curriculum Review Information Evening

We have been reviewing our Year 7 – 11 curriculum for the last 18 months alongside the nationwide review of NCEA.

The aims of the review have been to enable students to experience learning from all eight learning areas in order to keep their learning broad and to create more equity between learning areas. We also wanted to address the balance of learning and assessment at Year 11, in response to the findings from the NCEA Review around problems with over assessment to the detriment of deep learning.

The National NCEA Review has led to the change that NCEA Level 1 will be optional and it will become a broader foundational qualification that allows students to keep their options open. This focus is in line with the aims of our Year 7 – 11 curriculum review.

We have consulted with our students around breadth of subjects and coverage of the eight learning areas as well as gained helpful feedback from the Parent Advisory Group, which met in March of this year. Throughout this process we have worked with other schools who have been reviewing the delivery of their curriculum programmes and considered the information from all these sources.

As the next stage in this process of reviewing our Year 7 - 11 Curriculum is to share our plans to date and gain valuable feedback. We have done this with our current Year 9 and 10 students and would like to run a parent evening on Thursday June 17th at 7pm in the school chapel, to outline where our review is at and invite you to contribute.
