Library News

I hope everyone is safe and managing to find bright spots in their bubbles. For me a highlight has been time to read, and here are some suggestions for any students who might like to get lost in a good story.

Graphic novels are some of our most popular titles in the library, and readers missing those can check out this list of free reads! There are a wide variety of comics and graphic novels there so hopefully there will be something for everyone.

I have enjoyed getting messages from students and parents this week asking for book recommendations and it has been lovely to see students borrowing eBooks and Audiobooks to keep up their reading while at home. Please remember that you are free to email me and ask for suggestions if your reader is finding it hard to choose a book.

Some eBooks and Audiobooks on our platform for readers who enjoyed Harry Potter:

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series by Michael Scott. Start with The Alchemist and read through the first five books in the series!

Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series by Ransom Riggs. The first one is Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

Ranger’s Apprentice series by John Flanagan. The first one is The Ruins of Gorlan and there are eleven books in the series, so this one will keep readers busy!

The Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. There are several spin off series as well, and some of them can be enjoyed without reading Percy’s story. Readers interested in Egyptian mythology can check out The Kane Chronicles and fans of Norse myths might like to start with the Magnus Chase series instead.

The Great Library series by Rachel Caine. Start with Ink and Bone and read about this mysterious world where the private ownership of books is forbidden!

Howl’s Moving Castle and/or Charmed Life by Diana Wynne Jones. We also have a few other titles from this delightful and imaginative author.

Coraline and/or The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. These might make your reader shiver but both are absolutely wonderful stories.
