Lockdown : Winter 2021

I know for many of our SHCS sportswomen, they are very disappointed and sadden by Winter Tournament Week being cancelled for the second year in a row.  NZSSS have recently released that winter fixtures will not be rescheduled in Term 3. This is always hard as many of them were just fine tuning their game play as they reached the pinnacle part of the season.

For now, I just want to say, congratulations on every individual and team efforts this winter season and a big thank you to coaches, managers, parents and supporters for all your continued support and ethusiasm for SHCS sport.

I hope you are all are still out there supporting the girls to keep up with their fitness and practice of individual skills as this can be great motivation for them over this difficult time.

Events that took place before lockdown...

Cross Country:

Three SHCS students recently participated in the National Cross Country Championships. Megan represented Otago in the U20 category and Zara Geddes and Anna Carswell competed in the U18 category.  Zara finished 2nd in the U18 Female race, she then combined with Anna as part of the Otago team that won the U18 teams section.

Surf Lifesaving:

Congratulations to Charlotte Aburn who I pool champs Charlotte came first in all her races and was named the under 14 girl champion at the South Island Pool Champs recently.

Football :

On the Monday before lockdown, our First XI had the opportunity to play Mountain View College from Timaru, who were down for a sport exchange.  It was a tight fixture with us taking a 2-0 lead by half time.  Some close goal attacks didn't quite pay off for us in the second half but unfortunately Mountain View did find the goal and the game ended in a draw.

Trapshooting:

Our 3 SHCS students participated in the Nightcaps competition a few weeks ago. Everyone shot exceptionally well and the results are getting better and better so that's really motivating for all.

Well done to Analee who won 1st in Senior Single rise and 1st in the Ladies Single Rise.
