SISS Touch Champions

St Hilda's Collegiate are the 2021 South Island Secondary School Touch Champions! Having recorded six runners-up performances since 2012, achieving the first championship victory for the school delivered a huge sense of satisfaction.

Held in Christchurch, 20-21 March, the team played seven matches in the run to the title. The result of each match was critical, and as is the case of most title-winning teams every member performed exceptionally well.

In the final against Columba, the team showed great composure and game out on top 5-4.

We want to acknowledge the connection with St Hilda's alumni. Many of our wonderful former players have attended trainings to provide quality opposition for our current team. This connection is essential in the growth of the current team. Head Coach Hanlin Johnstone has volunteered his services for six years and it is only right that he should be at the helm for the school's first South Island touch title.

Ultimately the players achieved victory the St Hilda's way; skillful, hardworking, connected, composed, and with humility. We wish the players all the best through their winter codes, and look forward to term four preparations toward NZSS tournament in early December.
