Tolcarne News

Kia ora Tolcarne Whanau  Week 9 is complete, with only 5 more school days until the holidays! We were pleased to hear everyone enjoyed Matariki weekend, having a bonus day at home to spend time with family, friends and beloved pets!

On Wednesday a bus load of boarders and day girls headed to Balclutha, taking on South Otago in rugby. It sounded like a few close matches, with both our junior and senior teams coming away with a win! A lot of excitement on the return to Tolcarne - well done

My Flat Rules was held on Wednesday evening, which is always a highlight for those in the flats and the judges. This term the students were given mystery ingredients of... Coconut cream, chicken, almond flour, frozen berries and oranges.

Each flat did a fabulous job, creating very different entrees, mains and desserts. There was a lot of thought put into each dish, considering flavour combinations, how best to use the mystery ingredients and of course presentation.

The scoring was tight, due to the high quality meals produced. In the end Desert came out on top. They produced a delicious and well plated 3 courses, along with showing fabulous team work (all flatmates got involved, even if they were away)!

Well done to everyone, Ziggy, Mrs Rathbone and I were very impressed! We hope you enjoy your well deserved prizes

The Year 9s had Koru this week, with special guest Cassidy Stevenson from Year 13. She lead the session, sharing some ideas around bullying and insight into different experiences. Cassidy had a range of scenarios that the students acted out, showing what it would look like to be the 'bully' and also a 'bystander'. It was great to see her wanting to give back to the juniors at Tolcarne, with relevant advice and thoughts around the topic. Thank you Cassidy, it was much appreciated

On Thursday our Year 12 and 13s had a presentation from Life Matters. This is always an important talk to be part of, with many thought provoking points and take away messages.

This is the last weekend at Tolcarne for the term! It feels crazy that we have already reached this point, marking half way through the year. The junior activity on Sunday is 'Pole Fitness' which is always a challenge and many laughs. We hope everyone enjoys the weekend and we look forward to seeing you back on Sunday for one final push through to the holiday break - Ma tē wā!
