Otago Southland Netball Champions

Last Saturday, SHCS Senior A Netball team headed to Invercargill to compete in the inaurgral Otago Southland Senior Netball Championship. This was in replace of the cancelled SISS Netball Tournament due to Covid-19. The Tournament brought Senior A teams from throughout Otago and Southland together and provided our top teams with a tournament experience that otherwise would not have happened.

Our girls had a very enjoyable tournament both on and off the court. We were the loudest team off the court with music and singing as we waited outside to be let in. On court our girls showed their class in all aspects of the game. Quality skill, team work and sportsmanship was on display. Despite an almost hiccup against Otago Girls, our team dominated pool play and went into the straight final against Southland Girls. The girls started the game with intensity and focus and it was enough to take the lead from the first quarter and they never looked back, taking the game 32-20.

A huge thank you to Janine Southby and Clare Malthus, a fabulous duo that made the three days flawless. Thank you to the teams amazing supporters that encourged the girls all the way.

Congratulations to all the players and to Annie Timu, Emma McKay, Gemma Rowcroft and Grace Southby who made the Talented Players Squad.
