Weekly News Term 2 Week 9

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It was with great excitement that we moved to Level 1 at school this week. While the girls have given social distancing their best efforts, it has been understandably hard for 450 teenagers to try and manage the separation that was required.

That ability to hug, touch, crowd together and squish into the chapel is so important as a tangible way to connect and belong and I am sure we will not take those opportunities for granted again. That physical sense of belonging is also reflected in the community events that we hold and that are so important to our community.

Just before we went into Lockdown we were lucky to be able to host our fabulous School Fair. A massive thanks to the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) and their team of volunteers who made the day so successful, raising $50,000. A record!

We could not have hosted such a wonderful event without the generous support of our families, sponsors and the work of students, parents and volunteers. Please see the article in this newsletter that has all the details on the Fair and also the items and projects that the PFA are supporting with the money raised. We are very fortunate to have such a committed and hard working community, and I know all the girls will benefit directly from the money raised. Thank you so much for connecting with, and assisting, us in such a meaningful way.

We have rescheduled the Parent Advisory Group meeting that was to have been held in March for Thursday 25th June, 7.00pm in the library. The focus of this meeting will be Wellbeing and the whole school Wellbeing Framework that we are developing. Your thoughts and input into this initiative will be incredibly valuable and I look forward to working with those of you who are able to make yourselves available. The members who made up the Advisory Group last year really added value to our blue sky thinking and strategic planning, and I hope many of you will be able to contribute again this year. You are part of the team and continuity will be important, as well as having the added expertise and thoughts of new members.. To assist our planning for the evening and for catering purposes please RSVP to admin@shcs.school.nz
